What is an exercise physiologist?

An Exercise Physiologist is an individual who is certified to practice exercise physiology by having attained a degree. It is required that an exercise physiologist is able to identify physiological aspects in relation to physical activity, comprehensively dealing with analysis of these medical issues through the rehabilitation of patients with chronic disease, disabilities and heart disease. By focusing on improving and maintaining health and fitness, exercise physiologists provide professional guidance and understanding to patients through sports training, and human adaptability to acute and chronic exercise.
An Exercise physiologist provides certified government accredited degree level one on one rehabilitation for patients to properly assess them for acute and chronic conditions. An Exercise Physiologist is trained to aid recovery and rehabilitate after operation or injury by adapting a wide-range of physical exercise conditions for each individual.
Your exercise physiologist helps set goals of attainment and monitors progress and recovery.
Exercise Physiologists provide pre and post intervention outcome measures; and indicate the clients current level and anticipated level of functional independence in managing his or her own exercise plan. In addition, many exercise physiologists study the effect of exercise on pathology, and the mechanisms by which exercise can reduce or reverse disease progression.
Rehabilitation service that uses exercise as a form of therapy
In summary, Exercise physiology is a rehabilitation service that uses exercise as a form of therapy. The health benefits of exercise have been well documented over many years and the role of the exercise physiologist is to apply the principles of exercise for rehabilitation to the specific needs of the client, specific to his or her injuries. Whilst also striving to provide the client with the necessary skills and knowledge to progress his/her own exercise program independently.
"They attempt to improve lifestyle armed with skills in a range of areas including preventative medicine, exercise science, healthy nutrition and biomechanics."
Please be advised that our exercise physiologist only receives referrals through the Department of Veteran Affairs, Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plan's as part of the Team Care Arrangements and Workers Compensation organisations.
The Clinic does not under any circumstances provide Personal training, as personal training is only provided through Fitness First and therefore exercise physiology is completely separate. If you require exercise physiology our clinic requires a referral from your GP or one of the organisations mentioned in this text.
We look forward to assisting you should you require exercise physiology.
